FAQs

I like your business name - how did you come up with it?

It was Kate’s husband who came up with the business name – “This house is just FULL of thread, Kate!” (If you sew, you may well be familiar with this!)

Do you sew? Can I see what you make?

Kate is a quilter and an avid user of Moda Fabrics in particular. You can see her creations on Instagram or Facebook, she would love you to come and take a look or come and follow along. Please do tag us in your pictures of your creations (@ahousefullofthread), or send us an email - Kate in particular would love to see what you’ve been up to!

How do I place an order?

Our website is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, whenever you need to place a crafty order.

Our office hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm and we process and ship all orders during this time.

Simply add items to your basket and when you are ready to pay press the proceed to check out button. You will be able to create an account - which will enable you to track your order - or check out as a guest.

You can make a payment using Visa, MasterCard or regular account payments all through PayPal. You don't need a PayPal account to purchase from this shop. Although if you already have a PayPal account you may use it.

I have a question, how do I get in touch? Can I call you?

We run the online shop from our home in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire. Our priority is to provide quality products and excellent service to customers of A House Full of Thread. All emails are responded to as quickly and efficiently as we can. Please get in touch if there is anything we can do to improve A House Full of Thread, we would love to hear from you! If you have a query about a product, would like more information or some advice, please send me an email or get in touch through the website. If you are in the UK and would like to speak to Kate about your order, please include your telephone number in your email and she will call you back asap.

Can I visit your shop?

A House Full of Thread is an online shop only and is run from home, therefore we're afraid that it is not possible to visit and view the fabrics.

How do you cut the fabric?

Fabric bought by the metre is cut off the bolt using a rotary cutter (for straight lines - no ripping here!)

We sell our fabrics by the unit which is a metric fat quarter and although fabrics can vary in size, (please see individual product pages for widths) typically a unit measures approximately 50cm x 55cm.  If you order more than one unit then we will cut this as one length. If for any reason this is not possible, we will contact you before posting.  We have listed a table below to help you in deciding how many units you will need to get the length of fabric you require.

1 unit   = 55cm wide x 50cm long (Fat Quarter)
2 units = 110cm wide x 50cm long (1/2 metre)
3 units = 110cm wide x 75cm long (3/4 metre)
4 units = 110cm wide x 100 cm long (1 metre)
5 units = 110cm wide x 125cm long 1 1/4 metres)
6 units = 110cm wide x 150cm long (1 1/2 metres)
7 units = 110cm wide x 175cm long 1 3/4 metres)
8 units = 110cm wide x 200cm long (2 metres)

The individual product page will state if any of our fabrics are sold in measurements other than fat quarters.

How accurate are your product pictures?

We try our hardest to provide an accurate representation of the products you are purchasing online. We use the manufacturer’s photos in our listings or fabrics. Please note that due to variances of individual computer screens the colour of products may vary based on your monitor settings. Please bear this in mind when placing your order and understand that the there may be variances in the colour of delivered items.

Can I have a sample?

We are happy to send swatches of fabric to help you match fabrics. Please use our contact form to request the swatches you would like and make sure to provide your full postal address.

Can I use the fabric on this website for children’s sleepwear?

Please be aware that unless otherwise stated on the individual product page the fabrics on our website are not suitable for children's sleepwear.

Should I Pre-Wash fabrics before use?

Moda Precuts do not need to be washed before use. We would recommend that you prewash any fabrics intended for the use of dressmaking, extra wide quilt backs and batiks, or if you are worried about shrinkage or colour runs in your final project. The Moda Blog has a fabulous article regarding prewashing of fabrics for quilting.

If you are concerned at all, prewash – it’s better to be safe than sorry! Please bear in mind that there is a risk of shrinkage. Therefore we recommend purchasing slightly more fabric than necessary, just to be safe.

Whenever you wash, do so on a cool wash using a mild detergent and with a colour catcher (or two if you are nervous!) and remove from the machine as soon as the cycle is finished.
